In a major announcement that has the Yakuza community celebrating, SEGA and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have revealed a firm release date for Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Following its launch on the Nintendo Switch 2, the critically acclaimed prequel will become available on modern consoles and PC on December 8, 2025. This new version is a significant re-release, adding new features, enhancements, and content to one of the most beloved titles in the franchise. The news comes as part of a major announcement from the studio, which also revealed the release of Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 on the same date for the same platforms, creating a perfect entry point for new players and a reason for veterans to revisit the iconic series.
The “Director’s Cut” subtitle is more than just a marketing gimmick. This version of Yakuza 0 includes a variety of new features that aim to enhance the experience. The most notable additions are a full English voice-over, over 26 minutes of newly recorded cutscenes, and a brand-new online multiplayer mode. The new cutscenes are designed to provide “closure” and added context to certain characters and plot points, though some members of the community have expressed mixed feelings about these changes. The new multiplayer mode, “Red Light Raid,” will allow up to four players to team up and battle hordes of enemies using a roster of over 60 playable characters from the series. This marks the first time the series has featured a co-operative multiplayer experience, making it a major departure from the traditional single-player experience.
What’s New in the Director’s Cut?
The upcoming release is being positioned as the definitive way to play Yakuza 0. Here is a breakdown of the key additions and changes that players can expect:
- New Cutscenes: The “Director’s Cut” adds over 26 minutes of new cutscenes that were not present in the original game. These scenes provide more depth to the story and characters, although some fans have found them to be controversial.
 - English Dub: For the first time, Yakuza 0 will have a full English voice-over option. This is a massive change for Western players who previously only had access to a Japanese dub with subtitles. The English dub has been praised for its high-quality voice acting, with particular praise for the actors portraying Kiryu and Majima.
 - Red Light Raid Multiplayer: A new online co-op mode called “Red Light Raid” has been added. In this mode, players can choose from a large roster of characters and team up with friends to take on missions and bosses. While it won’t be available at launch, it is a significant addition that will be added in a post-release update.
 - Enhanced Visuals: The game will be enhanced with better lighting, textures, and a stable 60 frames-per-second performance on modern consoles. This ensures that the game, which was originally a PlayStation 3 title, looks and plays better than ever before.

Pricing, Availability, and Save Data
The Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will be available for purchase at a price of around $50 USD. The game will be available both physically and digitally on all three announced platforms. It is important to note for players who already own the original version of Yakuza 0 that there is no upgrade path. Additionally, save data from the original game cannot be carried over to the “Director’s Cut.” This means that players who want to experience the new content will have to start from the beginning. While this is a minor inconvenience for veteran players, it is a small price to pay for the new features and enhancements. The upcoming release of Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut is a major win for the franchise, bringing the beloved prequel to a new generation of players and giving the series a powerful start on modern consoles. With this and the simultaneous release of the Kiwami games, the Like a Dragon series is in a perfect position to attract new fans and solidify its place as one of the best PC gaming and console franchises of the modern era.
